Media summary: A 2018 BMW fled from an officer who attempted to pull the vehicle over. Police said the driver was clocked going 90 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone. The driver, Jermaine Ricardo Bernard, 30, attempted to escape the officer by turning his headlights off and an exit toward Route 301. After failing to make a turn onto 301, Bernard then made a U-turn, heading the wrong way down the exit ramp and eventually traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-95. Emporia Police Officer R.C. Williams, reportedly lost sight of the BMW, which collided with a Lincoln heading north. Both the driver and passenger in the BMW were thrown from the car, and the BMW caught fire. Bernard was flown to VCU Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the BMW Melissa R. Dorsett, 36, was killed, as was the passenger in the Lincoln, Meloney Vannessa McCormmock, 26.
