Media summary: Passengers Deandre Melton and Delonte Stanley were killed after the SUV they were in crashed during a police chase in Ferguson. According to police, the teens were in a Nissan Pathfinder that had been reported stolen from a car wash in Wellston earlier that night. Shortly after the theft, the Pathfinder was allegedly involved in an attempted carjacking in Ferguson. At around 11:30 p.m., a Dellwood officer saw the SUV on Glen Owen Drive and turned on his lights and siren, but the driver sped off. The officer chased the Pathfinder west for more than a mile until the SUV attempted to pass another police car that was headed in the same direction. The SUV, which may have clipped the front of the police car, lost control, flipped over several times and bounced so high that it struck a utility line 13.5 feet above the ground.
