Media summary: Alexander Diaz was killed when an SUV fleeing police struck him as he crossed the street with his mother and three siblings in the Ravenswood neighborhood. At about 7:45 p.m., plainclothes officers Michael Yzaguirre and Patrick Kearns were on Wilson Avenue when the SUV pulled up and the occupants allegedly flashed gang signs and yelled out a Latin Kings slogan. The officers identified themselves and approached on foot at a traffic light, but the driver drove away. According to police, the officers got in their unmarked car to pursue the SUV, but lost sight of it as it turned on Greenview. After about a block, the SUV hit the Diaz family and crashed into a church.
