Media summary: Shane Violett was killed after his Chevrolet Camaro crashed during a police chase. Shortly before 10:30 p.m., off-duty officer B.J. Fisher reportedly saw Violett's Camaro doing "doughnuts" in a parking lot at the intersection of Belt Highway and Mitchell Avenue. Fisher, who'd unsuccessfully tried to stop Violett twice the week before, called for backup and officer Jason Strong responded. Violett fled west on Mitchell Avenue and through a red light, at which point both Fisher and Strong turned off their lights and stopped pursuit, according to police. Violett crashed into a street sign and two trees seconds later. Police claimed the officers did not witness the crash. Violett died at a hospital early the next morning.
