Media summary: About 12:20 p.m., deputies chased a gray Nissan Pathfinder into Asheboro on U.S. 64. Deputies and troopers tried at least twice to end the chase using stop sticks to deflate the vehicle's tires. Police reportedly ended their pursuit on Interstate 73/74. The Pathfinder drove the wrong way for nearly 3 miles before sideswiping a blue Acura and striking a black Jeep head-on just north of Salisbury Street at 12:28 p.m. The driver was killed.
