Media summary: Fort Riley soldier Richard Sandoval died in a fiery crash after fleeing from a deputy. The deputy had attempted to stop Sandoval's Pontiac G5 at around 2:40 a.m. About a minute later, Sandoval's car went off the road, struck a tree and caught fire. According to police, the deputy and a Junction City officer tried unsuccessfully to pull Sandoval from the vehicle. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, the coroner pronounced Sandoval dead.
